A well-balanced diet is conducive to healthy skin, and when BYROE New York founder Amy Roe came to America, she saw that salad was such a huge part of our diet. It made her wonder why beauty brands weren’t creating products to highlight this, and so she created a line of salad-inspired products. My favorite of the collection is the Fig Renewal Oil—for so many reasons.
My Skin Type:
Combination. I’m drier in the cold-weather months and oilier in the warm-weather ones thanks to the high humidity on the East Coast.
The Benefits:
Face oils can get a bad wrap if they’re too heavy or too greasy, but this one is neither of those things. It actually doesn’t even feel like a face oil. Luxurious and packed with antioxidants, the dry oil formula delivers a host of skin-renewing benefits, but without an oily residue. True to her salad theme, the star ingredient is fig, which increases moisture levels in the skin and prevents transepidermal water loss (TEWL), which gets worse with age. Other key nutrient-rich extracts, including beet, carrot, strawberry, and eggplant, make up the oil’s superfood complex and collectively nourish the skin. Thank you Amy for successfully making me crave a delicious, fresh salad as I write this.
A host of floral extracts help neutralize free-radical damage in the skin, which contributes to premature signs of aging; and a mix of jojoba and sunflower seed oils softens the skin while keeping its barrier strong and healthy. This is something I really look for in skin-care products during the cold, winter months when the air is dry, though its beneficial year-round. In a clinical study, the oil proved to “increase skin elasticity and boost skin glossiness after four weeks of use.” Personally, I noticed a more visible radiance to my skin and a plumper appearance. I also love that I can apply it before bed and it doesn’t make a mess all over my pillowcase.
Key Ingredients:
Fig, beet extract, strawberry extract, carrot extract, eggplant extract, jojoba oil, starflower, aloe vera flower, calendula, sunflower seed oil and chamomile
What It’s Free From:
Parabens, mineral oil, triclosan, phthalates, benzophenone, phenoxyethanol
How to Use It:
Warm a few drops in the palm of your hands and then press into your face, neck and décolleté after cleansing, either before or after moisturizing. This will depend on the texture of your moisturizer: Always apply your products from thinnest to thickest (aside from SPF of course). You can also use it twice a day if you prefer, though I usually reserve it for my nighttime routine.
Price/Where to Buy:
