While the Met Gala Was Going on This Beauty Brand Broke a World Record

Whether you were stalking out your favorite celebs outside The Carlisle or keeping up with the happenings online, last night’s Met Gala was pretty much on the forefront of most of our minds. However, despite the hustle and bustle of fashion’s biggest night, La Roche Posay was holding its own ground-breaking event that ended up setting a Guinness World Record.

In partnership with Schweiger Dermatology Group, La Roche Posay, global leader in sun protection, set the Guinness World Record for most skin cancer screenings in eight hours at one location with a total of 1,988 skin checks. The renowned skin-care brand hosted a two-day pop up at New York’s Hudson Yards as a kick off to Melanoma Awareness Month in hopes of spreading awareness and encouraging preventative behavior for the all too common disease.

As part of the pop-up, La Roche Posay and Schweiger dermatology performed a record-breaking number of “skin checks,” which is a way of detecting suspicious moles on the skin that could be cancerous. The pop-up’s main goal was to encourage users not only to practice regular sun protection, but also to get checked regularly, as the five-year survival rate for melanoma that is caught early is 99%.

As if a record-setting number of skin checks wasn’t enough, the brand also provided attendees with sunscreen, hats and beach totes, and also donated $5 to the American Cancer Society for each screening conducted, proving the event to be a momentous occasion in the realm of skin-cancer prevention.
