When it comes to sustainable beauty in the hair-care space, Italian-made davines is at the top of their game. I’ve long been a fan of the brand’s ethos—it became a B corp long before most people even knew what that was; all the products are carbon-neutral—and the textures and scents practically make my hair sing. Then the Heart of Glass collection launched, and I had a specific line for my blonde hair that maintained the same commitment to biodegradability, sustainable ingredient sourcing and efficacy.
I had devoured the shampoo and conditioner when Heart of Glass launched in early 2021, but I hadn’t tried the Intense Treatment or Sheer Glaze until recently. Now I’m hooked, and here’s why.
My Hair Type:
I have long, fine, color-treated blonde hair that is prone to frizz. It doesn’t always look fine because I have a lot of hair, but I promise it is.
The Benefits:
Designed to highlight the beauty of blonde hair, the Heart of Glass collection is chock-full of an innovative natural extract from baobab seeds, which serve as a botanical alternative to silicones. So not only does blonde hair get the TLC it needs, but it reaps the benefits (moisturization and manageability) sans silicones. Though any type of blonde can use these products, whether you’re natural or chemically treated, one product is meant for damage repair and anti-breakage benefits, which usually benefits the latter group (me included).
I’ve been coloring my hair with single-process, balayage or traditional highlights since I was 20, and the resulting damage has unfortunately been inevitable. The Intense Treatment (a rich cream) is the one you grab once a week for damage repair, which chemically processed hair like mine needs. The combination of baobab extract and the brand’s patented Biacidic Bond Complex strengthens the hair fiber so breakage is minimized and hair looks healthier and brighter. In the brand’s testing using the Heart of Glass system, if the Treatment was left on the hair for 10 minutes, it was able to resist hair breakage up to 57 percent more than hair that wasn’t treated.
Though you don’t have to combine both treatments to get results, hair like mine really benefits from the duo, and it feels like a nice reset, like a self-care Sunday ritual. Think of the Sheer Glaze as your heat protectant, UV protectant (great for beach days) and shine savior. To me, this is the icing on the cake after the Intense Treatment. The lightweight, fluid formula contains a new, patented natural active ingredient sourced from the Scandinavian fir tree that defends hair against heat damage while also hydrating and promoting elasticity. The brand calls it a “botanical shield” that comes from the fibers taken from the trees grown in sustainably managed forests.

How to Use Them:
Intense Treatment: Apply it to towel-dried hair from the mid-lengths to the ends once a week (you can also use it more if your hair is very damaged). Leave on for 5 to 10 minutes, comb through and then rinse out.
Sheer Glaze: Apply seven to 15 pumps evenly on towel-dried hair, and then comb through and style as usual.
