When we think of celebrities we admire for their radiant beauty, Scarlett Johansson is always on our minds. But, with the upcoming release of the new star-studded Wes Anderson film, Asteroid City, we’ve been getting even more Scar Jo content than usual, and we couldn’t be happier. This week, the actress sat down with Harpers Bazaar and her makeup artist Frankie Boyd to talk all things red carpet essentials, including the lip plumping product they swear by.
Red carpets are known for their blinding lights and endless cameras, which means a reliable base routine is key to a good look. For Johansson, Boyd opts to start her look with the the Gucci Éternité de Beauté SPF Foundation ($69). “I use this foundation to tan the complexion just slightly, and make Scarlett look a little more sun-kissed,” he explains. Some of Boyd’s other face makeup essentials include the Armani Beauty Power Fabric Longwear Matte Concealer ($40), Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder for Under Eyes ($33), and the Pat McGrath Labs Skin Fetish Highlighter & Balm Duo ($50), which he uses to “highlight the outside of Scarlett’s face, close to her hairline, under the brows, and on the top of her cheekbones,” as well as the tip of her nose and her cupids bow.
Boyd’s tried-and-true lip combo for Scarlett is simple but effective. “On Scarlett’s lips, I use Charlotte Tilbury’s Lip Cheat Liner ($25) in Pillow Talk to emphasize her lip shape—I typically overline the top on,” he begins. “Then I use the Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme Hydrating Lip Plumper ($29) to finish.”
Another one of Boyd’s secrets for creating a long-lasting, glowy look is the Tower 28 SuperDew Shimmer-Free Highlighter Balm ($18). “For a glossy eye effect, I like to use Tower 28’s SuperDew Shimmer-Free Highlight Balm, and a little more of the Pat McGrath Labs highlighter on to pop the inner corner of her eye,” he says.
