Over 50,000 containers of Vital Proteins Collagen Peptide supplement, for which Jennifer Aniston is a spokesperson, have been recalled due to potential foreign material contamination, according to the FDA. The voluntary recall impacts product shipped Costcos in 20 states and Puerto Rico.
The foreign contamination in these collagen supplements is thought to be shards of plastic from a broken lid. According to the FDA, “pieces of one blue broken lid may be in one or more canisters. “The potentially contaminated products were sold by Costco from April 17 to 24th. The recall was first announced by Vital Proteins to Costco on April 28th, which was then communicated to Costco shoppers with the offer of a full refund.
Vital Proteins said in a statement on Wednesday that it initiated the recall “out of an abundance of caution and our commitment to product quality and consumer safety.”
This is a Class II recall, which the FDA defines as a situation where exposure to the product may cause “temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences” or where the likelihood of serious injuries is “remote.” There have been no injuries reported by Vital Proteins or Costco in relation to this recall.
The affected 24-ounce plastic contained have the UPC code 857273008666 and batch code 30095993HA with an expiration of Jan. 9, 2028.
