In the early ’90s, when we were all growing out the bangs we’d stiffened with way too much hairspray in the years prior, one very special accessory served both a chic and practical purpose: a wide, stretchy, cotton headband. Inspired by mod looks of the 1960s, the look involved wearing the swath of fabric very far forward, fully covering the hairline. And it looks like the trend is on a 30-year cycle, because Camila Cabello was just spotted wearing it with a modern feel.
Cabello is having a very good hair week as she attends haute couture shows in Paris (did you see her tendril-enhanced twisted updo?), sometimes changing up her hairstyle more than once a day. Although stylist Dimitris Giannetos has styled it up for most of her appearances, he deviated from the updos and ponytails when Cabello attended the Alexandre Vauthier show.
The singer’s hair was blown out straight yet voluminous, and that volume was especially oomph-y on top of her head thanks to her key accessory: a wide, black, stretchy, fabric headband. In addition to creating a bit of height, it also flawlessly hid her bangs, kept her hair off of her face, and even helped hold her sunglasses in place. The style is true to that beloved ’90s trends yet feels totally today thanks to a sleek, almost goth ensemble.
