“Right Now, I’m on a Journey of Self-Care and Self-Love”

It might not seem totally seamless to discuss diaper blowouts, meditation and ‘90s fashion trends in the same 10-minute conversation but, somehow, Tia Mowry makes it work. The 45-year-old mom of two is currently partnering with Pampers to help launch their revamped Pampers Swaddlers and, as the actress hilariously shares, she has some relevant stories to tell.

Why this partnership?

I have a very busy schedule, and blowouts have definitely been something that have been a part of my life. I have some crazy stories to tell—in particular, with my son. When he was around three months old, I remember going to this restaurant, we were sitting out in the patio, and then he had this massive blowout. It literally looked like a crime scene! And he was dressed to the nines.

Anyway, he had this massive blowout. It was everywhere—on his clothes, on him, on me. All of it was no longer in the diaper, let’s just say that. The only way that I could get to the changing room was through the restaurant. I’m by myself with my baby, and it was very embarrassing.

I ended up having to do what I needed to do there. So, I’m partnering up with Pampers Swaddlers because they have these incredible new diapers, the Pampers Swaddlers’ new blowout barrier diaper. I wish I had these diapers when my kids were younger! But I want to share this with moms and let them know that this is a game-changer. It’s something that all moms should know about. I believe in the mom community and sharing information on how we can make our lives easier. This is definitely one less thing that parents have to worry about, since it helps prevent up to 100-percent leaks and blowouts.

Those are some good stats! Is there anything you do for wellness or self-care?

I have an incredible haircare line called 4U and it’s all about self-care—taking care of myself, my hair, and just looking good and feeling good. Using the products makes me feel really good.

I’m a huge fan of candles. I’ll light candles around the house, especially when I’m winding down for the evening. It puts me in a mood. I’ll have a candle going when I’m taking a nice bubble bath; I’ll have a candle going next to my bed. I am also a huge fan of essential oils, and I’ll have that going throughout my room or in the bathroom. Saje is a great brand that I’ve been using for years.

But, yes, I’m a huge believer in self-care overall, because I live such a very, very busy, hectic life, which I know a lot of people do. I think it’s really, really important for everyone to take time out for themselves to recharge, refuel, or refill their cups so that they can be the best mom or partner that they can be.

I’m also all about meditating, journaling and reading. I just did this amazing self-love, self-care traveling journey where I traveled alone for the first time. I went to Europe, Spain, London, and I did this incredible writer’s retreat with just women. It was amazing. I’m definitely on this journey of self-care and self-love right now. I feel like a different person. I do not feel like the same person that I was years ago. It’s beautiful.

That’s amazing. I’m glad you took that time for yourself. I know you’re such an icon of the ’90s, early 2000s. Are there any trends you hope will come back?

You know what? I feel like they already are. Especially with fashion! Doc Martens are so back in style right now; I have a pair and it’s so nostalgic. You know what I mean? When I wear them, I’m like, ‘I used to wear these when I was 14, 15 years old,’ and now my daughter has a pair. To have the same shoes that as my daughter is so iconic. It all comes back around, which I think, is really, really cool.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
